Cook County Arrest Records

Cook County arrest records are public records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), allowing members of the public to request inspection or copies of these documents, subject to applicable laws and regulations. Accordingly, individuals may submit an electronic FOIA request to the Cook County Sheriff's Office or send a standard letter to the mailing address below to obtain arrest records:

Cook County Sheriff's Office

Attention: Freedom of Information Officer

Richard J. Daley Center

Room 704

50 West Washington

Chicago, Illinois 60602

Requesters may also submit a record request in person at Room 701, Civil Process Division at the Daley Center.

Local police departments within Cook County also maintain public records of arrests made within their jurisdictions. For example, the Chicago Police Department makes adult arrest records available online through theirAdult Arrest Search portal.

It is noteworthy, however, that certain information may be redacted from an arrest record to comply with the restrictions of the FOIA and other extant laws. These include

  • Information regarding minors
  • Information that can interfere with law enforcement proceedings
  • Electronic recordings of custodial interrogations
  • Records under court seal
  • Private information such as social security numbers, home addresses, driver's license numbers, and dates of birth
